On 2 April 2010, an incident occurred during the German Armed Forces' mission in Afghanistan, which has since become known as the Good Friday battle. Around 30 to 40 insurgents ambushed a unit of paratroopers whose mission was to locate and defuse booby traps. The battle lasted nine hours and three paratroopers were killed: Sergeant Major Nils Bruns, Lance Corporal Robert Hartert and Lance Corporal Martin Augustyniak. Other soldiers were seriously wounded and had to be flown out under heavy fire from allies.
Pierre Lindholm, Lieutenant Colonel (retired), does not want to just sit around. He wants to commemorate the fallen German soldiers who lost their lives in the Good Friday battle in Afghanistan in 2010. To this end, he has organised a memorial march, which attracts more participants every year. There will be another memorial march this year: 14K3 – and anyone who would like to take part can register until 20 March at → Organiser's website register.
With every participation this year, our association Angriff auf die Seele e. V. will also benefit.
„With this march, we not only want to collect donations for associations affiliated with the German Armed Forces, but above all to combine physical activity with active remembrance (beyond the normal minute's silence) of our comrades. It is an event for everyone, so that we can spread awareness of this sensitive but very important topic and make it accessible,“ writes the organiser on its website.
This year, the conditions are therefore as follows: a 14-kilometre route with 14 kilograms of luggage. If that's too much for you, you can stick to the original conditions of the first march in 2020: 10 kilometres with 10 kilograms of luggage.
The march can take place on the weekend of 30/31 March or 6/7 April 2024, or on 2 April, which falls on a Tuesday this year.
